The Hottest Selling Books This Summer

I can't think of a better list to start off with in 2010 than my choice for the top 10 fastest (and hottest) selling books of the summer! Depending on what part of the planet you're on, these books appear on most bestsellers' lists. With all those vacation weeks piling up, now's the time to grab a few good books to enjoy by the beach or laying in the hammock at the cottage (or in your backyard if you're "staycationing")!

Getting Through a Job Loss

Ok...it's a little off-topic for me, but what the heck. I'm sure alot of people are experiencing a job loss right now or knows someone who is. What can you expect? What to do now?

Take some time to adjust to your new found freedom (I mean that in a nice way!). Let family and friends know, say your goodbyes, make sure you get the best package you can and then start to move on.

Easier said than done. If it's been many years since you've put a resume out there, you have some work to do. The first thing you need to do though is evaluate where you are. Have you considered other options to full-time work? Maybe you want to start your own business or work from home. Maybe part-time work would change you into that happy-go-lucky person you always knew you could be. Do a real self-assessment of your feelings about work and especially the type of work you want to do next. Think about your long-term goals. Consider everything when you are contemplating your next step.

The second thing you need to think about is your financial situation. Can your budget support 6 months worth of "down" time, or perhaps 4 months? This will give you an idea of how much time you have to play with.

In preparing for that next job search, there are several items you need to take care of. List all your skills and strengths, job experiences, try to understand what you liked and didn't like about your last job (or any of your jobs for that matter). Now you can develop a plan and go forward.

You'll need to write your resume, find some good references, and practice your cover letters or phone conversations. Network big time with anyone you think might be able to help in your job search. Look for those you trust and admire, and don't forget to enlist the support of your family and friends. If you need to organize, do that now, and learn to manage your time so that you can be productive both at home and in your job search. Research companies you think you might like to work for, especially those to whom you are applying or responding to.

Employment agencies can be a big help in your job search. Often, you may find that they can help with your resume and letter writing, offer job search tips and tools, and generally steer you in the right direction. Just be sure to be honest about what you're looking for so that you don't waste your time or the agency's, arranging interviews you have really don't want.

Finally, don't forget to eat healthy, get proper sleep, and take time out for excercise and play. And send out thank-you letters when appropriate. A good impression is your best bet to finding the job that's right for you.....perhaps next post we can talk more about starting your own business! Good luck!

Paid Surveys

There's a lot of talk on the net right now about paid survey sites. Many of these sites are free to join, but the big money ones seem to charge a one-time fee for access to their survey database. I have no experience with the paid ones, but I'm trying to join as many of the free ones as possible and see which ones I appreciate most.

One site I've come across is A.W. Surveys. Membership is free, however, if you choose to be paid by paypal or alertpay, there is a $25.00 expedited service charge that is taken from your account with A.W. Surveys. I haven't yet reached the (assumed?) $75.00 payout, so I can't tell you exactly how that will work. If you choose to have your payment mailed to you, it will take 4-6 weeks but you will not be charged.

When you join, the site offers a $6.00 welcome survey, and subsequent surveys I've done pay $4.00 to review a couple of websites. The site also has monthly cash bonus prizes of $500.00. In addition, you are paid $1.25 for each friend you refer to their website.

I really like the site because it's easy to navigate my experience so far has been pleasant. If you'd like to join for free and receive your initial $6.00 welcome survey, hurry over to $6.00 Welcome Survey After Free Registration!.

I think you'll be pleased!

Oh Christmas Tree

'Tis a month before Christmas...and all through the house...........are you on the hunt for that perfect "cut-your-own" Christmas tree? Scotch pine is getting more and more scarce in these parts (probably due to their popularity), but there are still a few good places to check out.

If you are in the neighborhood of Cambridge, Guelph, and Kitchener, Ontario, head down highway 8 past Safari (African Lion Safari that is) road. There are several in the area. You are sure to find something that will please everyone.

We especially like Pinedale Farms on Concession 5 in Flamborough. Not only do they usually have what we want, but they are a friendly bunch of people who never forget a face. They will welcome you back each year. You can check out their website at http://www.christmastrees.on.ca/pinedalefarms.html.

For a more comprehensive list, just go to http://www.christmastrees.on.ca

Happy hunting!

All About Balance

Many people say the secret to happiness is a balanced lifestyle. But how do you achieve that? It's not really as hard as we think. A couple of small changes in your life can make a big difference.

First, identify the areas you need help in. For example, is mealtime a problem in your household? Then try to plan meals ahead if at all possible. If you work full-time, make sure you take plenty of healthy snacks especially ones that will boost your energy for that mid-afternoon lag (stay away from the doughnuts, chips, and candy bars and choose yogurt, cheese, or nuts and seeds). For more information on foods that boost energy, check out http://ww2.heartandstroke.ca

Wherever and whenever possible choose ACTION over inaction. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk around the long way to get where you're going instead of taking that shortcut. Even a short walk around the block after dinner is better than not moving at all.

Treat yourself once in a while (I say once a week, but who am I??) to something that makes you feel good (you be the judge!). It could be watching a favorite movie after the kids are in bed or a long hot bath if that's what you like. Maybe buy yourself that magazine on the way out of the grocery store!

Keep yourself hydrated by drinking the recommended 8 glasses of water a day. Water really is a lifesaver and is usally the best thing to satisfy you when you're really really thirsty. I'm not knocking that ice cold can of diet cola because sometimes that tastes best, but maybe that could be your treat.

If I had one last piece of advice....it would be...don't take yourself too seriously. There's often a time and place to contemplate and worry about life's ups and downs. Sometimes family time has to be used for this, but most often than not, that thing you're worrying about never comes to pass and you've wasted precious time with your loved ones. So lighten up a little and enjoy every minute you can!.

For more on home and family issues, check out my squidoo page at http://squidoo.com/homeandfamily.

I'd appreciate your comments and ideas on how you maintain a balanced lifestyle. So if you have any, leave 'em here!

Did you know?

Today's tip of the day: Dancing, as well as being fun is also a great way to excercise, burn calories, and lose weight. You can burn as many calories dancing (depending on the type of dance) as you can riding a bike, or walking.

Dancing can also improve your mood, balance and coordination, and tone your muscles.

So, if you're stressed, burned out, and anxious, sign up for a dance class or grab onto some of the cool dance videos you can find on the web or in stores. No one will ever know!

Check back later for more healthy tips, or leave your email address below and I'll send you out a weekly newsletter with the best tips of the week.

Hot Business Opportunities

Everyone else is talking about it, so here goes. What are most people looking for? More freedom, more money, more family time....and the list goes on. Well here's an opportunity that's free to join, fun, and can make you lots of money.

What am I talking about? AGLOCO. It stands for "A global community" and it's your chance to own a piece of the net. Billions of dollars are being spent on advertising on the internet, so why not get something back while viewing all those advertisements?

I recently joined AGLOCO because a business acquaintance recommended it to me. Many well-known internet marketers are recommending it as well. I am now promoting it to you because I like the idea and I want you to share in what I think will be an exciting new Internet concept.

AGLOCO is building a new form of online community that they call an Economic Network. They are not only paying Members their fair share, but they’re building a community that will generate the kind of fortune that YouTube made. But instead of that wealth making only a few people rich, the entire community will get its share.

What's the catch? No catch - no spyware, no pop-ups and no spam - membership and software are free and AGLOCO is 100% member owned. Privacy is a core value and AGLOCO never sells or rents member information.

So do both of us a favor: Sign up for AGLOCO right now! If you use this link to sign up, I automatically get credit for referring you and helping to build AGLOCO.

The new 7 wonders!

The list of new 7 wonders of the world was recently released. Aren't you excited? Obviously I'm not a world traveller, and missed the previous seven wonders, but I'd sure like to get a glimpse of some of these new ones some day.

They are as follows: The statue of Christ Redeemer in Brazil, Macchu Picchu in Peru, the pyramid in Mexico called "Chicken Itza" , the Great Wall of China, Petra in Jordan, the Roman Colosseum, and the Taj Mahal. Add to that of course, one of the original 7 wonders, the pyramids of Giza (the only surviving original wonders of the world).

What happened to the other 6 original wonders? Well that's a discussion for another day.

However, here's a bit more information on the new class. The statue of Christ Redeemer overlooks Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and apparently weighs 1,000 tonnes. The muscle it must have taken to get that up the mountain is unimagineable. The Great Wall of China is the longest man-made structure in the world and some always believed that the great wall could be seen from space. This is true to some extent in that you can see many man-made objects from a low orbit, however, many thousands of miles in space you can't see anything discernable. For more information on the Great Wall of China, please visit http://www.travelchinaguide.com/

Petra is actually an ancient city in Jordan famous for its' water tunnels and rock carvings, while Macchu Picchu is an extraordinary ancient city built on top of a mountain in the Andes 9,000 feet above sea level. How the Incas ever moved the huge stones up the mountain is a mystery to me. Visit http://www.sacredsites.com/ for more detail and some beautiful pictures of this mountain city.

I think everyone must be familiar with the Taj Mahal in India and the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. If you are interested in learning more about these beautiful ancient wonders, simply type any of the names into your web browser and you'll be delighted to find many interesting and worthy websites that will satisy your craving for geography and history. Check out http://www.atlastours.net/ and of course http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ for an awesome slideshow, detailed reports and wallpaper for your computer desktop. Travel the world right now, without ever leaving home! Happy surfing.

Time Flies!

Time flies when you're bundled up waiting for spring to arrive...I'm still waiting. It's April 15, 2007 and there is a little bit of snow on the ground. I think the overnight low on Friday was -7. Enough is enough. I really need to feel the sunshine.

But I'm wandering again. Back to business. Are you thinking of starting an on-line business but don't know where to start?

How many times have you heard... "The Money Is In The List."? If you never really paid attention to that statement, it's time you woke up and smelled the coffee. By having your own list, you can make money virtually anytime you send an email to your list. Even if you don't have your own products, a list is still vital to your online business.

I'm finding that even with the astounding amount of really good products and websites out there to promote as an affiliate, it's still difficult to earn money when you have no one to promote these products to. This is where the list comes in.

My advice? Head on over to "Big Profits...Small List" and sign up for their free 6-part e-course on listbuilding, and while you're there, grab a copy of their terrific e-book "Big Profits From a Small List". It explains all about how to cultivate a highly responsive mailing list that you can make offers to week after week that will earn you the profits you deserve. This special report is 43 pages of real information you can read today and see immediate results with. It's also a PDF report so you can read it on any computer or print it out if you like. For just $27.00, the information will help your online business for years to come. Satisfaction guaranteed or return for refund. Also, you can order through paypal. Most important....here's the link. Give it a try!

Spring has finally arrived!

A very early sign of of course, is the new daylights savings time. Boy that got everyone hopping!
Now that is officially here, your thoughts might be turning to the outdoors. While it's a early to planting, it isn't too early to planning your garden.
Grab ahold of those seed catalogs, check out your favorite blooming flowers and colours and working your plan.
If you're like me however, you're still trying to get your indoors organized first. I think I'll head up to the local nursery and scout out some really cool pots and containers. I have several that are in baskets, desparately seeking a new home.
Yes, has arrived!

Saturday, February 10, 2007

Ok...it's only February, but being close to Valentine's Day, gets you thinking about spring. It won't be long before you're outside in your slippers checking out the soggy garden and flower beds. Now is the time to start planning your garden if you haven't already done so. There are lots of on-line resources to get you started. Check out www.flower-gardening-made-easy.com or do a search on your local "horticultural society".

Keep in mind, that you must have time for all those other "list" things too. While you're dreaming of your sunny backyard in all its' glory, don't forget about that laundry piling up!

Happy New Year!

Yes, I know we're well into 2007 already, but I was just beginning to think about my goals for this new year.

In 2006, I met some of my goals, but not all of them. I vow to make a more manageable list for 2007.

How about you? Started thinking about your 2007 goals? Want to shed a few pounds? Get organized? Start a new hobby? Find more time for family and friends?

Whatever's on your list for 2007, we'll be discussing it here in the coming weeks. Where to find the best information on organizing, reducing clutter, shopping smarter, eating healthier, and developing healthy habits.

Until then, get those lists started!
